I’m a Commercial Photographer and This is Why I Don't Shoot Weddings or Family Portraits.

Hey there, lovely souls! Julia Dunin here, it’s been a while. There has been lot of reasons before to re-activate the blog, but life has been busy, and I am much more fluent in expressing myself in a visual language, then words. But I decided to embrace AI and created this post below with a help of ChatGPT. Most of the text it generated, didn’t sound like me at all, but after some tweaking, I'm excited to share a little piece of my world with you today.

As a passionate commercial and editorial photographer with a heart for celebrating the beauty of women through portraiture, I've often been asked why I don't venture into wedding or family photography. Today, I'd love to shed some light on this decision of mine.

First and foremost, let me express my undying love for capturing the essence of femininity through my lens. There's something empowering about unveiling the unique stories and strengths that lie within each woman I photograph. Be it a personal brand photoshoot, a fashion campaign, or an editorial spread, I thrive on showcasing the unique personality, beauty and strength of my subjects,. This focus has allowed me to hone my craft, nurturing my expertise in female portraiture.

One of the primary reasons I've chosen not to delve into wedding photography is a lack of time to really connect with the models, to direct them on poses and face expressions, and allow them to feel empowered and relaxed during the photoshoot. Those are my main principles when creating a photoshoot experience and they are extremely difficult to be achieved during the wedding day. Weddings are momentous occasions filled with love, emotions, and memories and while I wholeheartedly admire and respect wedding photographers for their incredible ability to capture the essence of these cherished moments, my true artistic calling lies elsewhere.

I believe that staying true to my niche enables me to provide my clients with an unparalleled experience. When I focus my lens on a woman, be it a female entrepreneur, a creative professional, actor or a model, she can feel confident knowing that my entire focus is dedicated to bringing out her uniqueness and showcasing her in the most stunning light possible. It's about creating a space where she can shine, free from distractions or external pressures.

Another aspect that differentiates my work from family photography is the creative freedom I cherish. Don't get me wrong; family photography is an art form in itself, allowing photographers to capture love, bonds, and joy within a family unit. But for me, the world of commercial and editorial photography offers an expansive canvas to explore new ideas, experiment with concepts, and collaborate with talents like designers, stylists or make-up artists. This type of collaborative creativity fuels my passion and keeps my artistic vision alive and evolving.

Choosing to specialize in female portraiture also grants me the opportunity to build lasting connections with my clients. The relationships formed during our sessions often extend beyond the camera's flash, leading to ongoing collaborations, relationships and mutual inspiration. Witnessing the transformation and growth of the women I photograph fills my heart with joy and fuels my determination to continue my creative journey.

While some might question my decision not to shoot weddings or family portraits, I am confident in the path I've chosen. Staying true to my artistic vision allows me to immerse myself fully in my craft, seeking out new inspirations and pushing boundaries. As an artist, I've learned that staying authentic to my vision is the key to creating work that truly resonates with both my clients and myself.

Thank you for joining me on this little exploration of my artistic world. I'm grateful for the chance to connect with you and share the passion that drives me each day. Remember, the beauty of photography lies in its diversity, and it's essential for each of us photographers to follow the path that aligns with our hearts and souls.

Until next time, keep chasing your dreams and embracing the unique artist within you.

With love and creativity,

Julia Dunin
